Skype’s official app just appeared in iTunes and so far it’s the best way to make a call from your iPhone over the web, no cellphone carrier needed. On booting up the app, enter your Sykpe creds and your contacts list is brought up. The app’s interface is intuitive and test calls had good quality. Here are some screenshots:
Sony’s had a tough time convincing the public to pick up a Playstation 3 since they announced before launch that it would retail for $599. Hardware changes, price adjustments and other factors have changed the PS3’s potential value over time and buying one is finally a reasonable prospect. Here’s why:
1. Flower
Beautiful and relaxing, Flower is the rare experience that keeps me interested in gaming and the main reason I finally bought a PS3.
2. Price / Value ratio starting to make sense
Retailers are packing in quality games like Killzone2 and LittleBigPlanet, very enticing.
3. Decent games library accumulating
No-one wants to pick up a pricey console for 1 or 2 games. There’s variety of good games available now on PS3 including the quirky, artistic games for download on Playstation Network.
4. Blu-ray maturing as a media format
Amazing video / audio quality and a growing catalog of movies and TV shows, though Blu-ray discs are still a bit pricey to buy. Until prices subside, Netflix is a good way to get your Blu-ray fix for $1 more on your monthly bill.
5. 2009-2010
There are interesting games coming out on PS3 over the next 2 years. Fat Princess, Infamous and Heavy Rain, for examples:
No doubt that data is becoming more visual and with the $590M purchase of Pure Digital, makers of the pocket Flip camera, Cisco has bought into future of pocket video recorders as networking tools. The Flip line of cameras are no doubt great to have around for capturing spontaneous moments, but are many non-tech enthusiasts likely to use a dedicated video capture device like this on a regular basis? It’s possible that Cisco recognizes the potential data sharing capabilities a device like this could bring to an enterprise, for example, the ability to amass a collection of user-created videos as a knowledge base. As corporations become more virtual, these cameras act as a means to document remotely, the footage captured by an agent on-location, then transferred to the project sponsor over the web. It will be interesting to see what Cisco does with this line and how the public receives these kinds of devices going forward.
There’s a Post Secret exhibit at Lesher Center’s Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, CA. Artistically crafted postcards that were mailed anonymously to the Post Secret website curators are on display. The postcards bear the sender’s secret; sometimes funny, sometimes moving or sad. There are also a couple diplays showing post secret related videos, a big screen computer monitor logged into Post Secret, and a “make your own Post Secret” station stocked with index cards and markers. Check it out if you’re in the SF Bay Area, cost is $5 and the exhibit runs through April 22nd.
Adam Carolla’s radio show was cancelled Feb 20th due to the station’s “format switch”, on the 23rd he launched the Adam Calolla podcast, which instantly jumped to number 1 on iTunes and as of now has over 1.6 million listiners. Adam has acquired a substantial fanbase over his 2+ decades radio and TV hosting career and they’re clearly connecting with him in this new digitally delivered format. Adam cracked me up, ranting alongside Dr Drew as the hosts of Loveline 20 years ago and though I havn’t seen or heard his work in years, I’m subscribed to and loving this podcast.
if (broad = a lot a people; cast = to make an announcement)
then(Adam Carolla is the new king of new broadcast)
